For months I´ve been thinking about walking around at night and taking photos.  Last night a friend had a friend visiting from Italy so we went out at sunset for a walk that lasted about 3 hours.  Here are some photos I took around Santa Ana Park before dark. Then San Cristobal and the Lucas Galvez market.

In the winter is´s almost dark at 6pm The sky is still blue but all the street lights are on in Santa Ana Park.  There is a park in front of the church where the kids are playing on the swings and slides.  You can buy hot dogs, churros and tamales.  We had some walnut cookies bought from the nuns on the side of the church.  Mass is in full swing.

From San Cristobal we walked over to the Lucas de Galvez market.  The market is closed but the food stalls are open and there are still a lot of people walking around.  Lines of people going back to their villages.  Families having dinner.  The light is beautiful on the old buildings which are surrounded by crowds and stalls all day.   This area reminds me of the old Les Halles in Paris and the Marais before it was restored and chic.

I remember once feeling unsafe after leaving an opening at the Museum by the market and walking home alone through the empty streets.  I am sure I was in no danger at all. But last night it felt very safe and it was fun to be out at this time of night with families going to church and people cleaning up their stalls in the market and the lines of people going home after shopping at the buen fin sale.
