In 2015 two cultural centers  opened in the center of Merida that are featuring the works of some local artist and many artist from other parts of Mexico and the world.  The Fundacion de Artistas opened in 2015 and Centro Cultural La Cupula opened in 2016.  This spring the Fundacion had a guest curator from Mexico City, Hilario Galguera, who mounted a shows of James H D Brown and Daniel Lezama. La Cupula is filling in the gap of the untimely closing of LA 68 offering concerts, films and lectures on most Thursday nights.  Kimiko Yoshida was the first artist in residence and since there have been two French artists Raphaël Ilias y Julien Laforge creating and showing works in the new space.

It is rare when there aren´t free concerts and festivals going on in Merida.  The town hall has an event calendar as does the web magazine Yucatan Living.   New galleries are popping up all over town and the Noche Blanca twice a year is the time to come if you want to meet the local art crowd.  It´s usually in February and in May.  Also in February the Merida English Library has a studio tour of many artists work spaces.  Through one of the galleries it should be able to arrange a studio visit no matter what time of year you visit Merida.
